Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our global team of experts and work within a functional team that is responsible for performing engineering analysis, design, and technical reports and drawings for tunnels and various underground structures, such as deep shafts, cut-and-cover structures, and mined tunnels and caverns for metro transit, infrastructure, bridges, or hydroelectric power projects. In this role, you will be responsible for working with multidisciplinary teams and effectively managing and delivering your own tasks in terms of budget, quality, and timelines. This position supports COWI’s role for multiple tunneling projects and/or metro stations. The chosen candidate will be responsible for coordinating the geotechnical discipline. In this role, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will support the Tunnel Project Manager in coordinating between the client and the COWI geotechnical team. The position will require solid project management and technical skills and will provide opportunities to grow and develop leadership skills. The position will be based in COWI’s Toronto Office or North Vancouver office. Your key responsibilities will be to: Coordinate and lead geotechnical investigations and the design, implementation, and oversight of medium to large exploration programs. Perform and review technical analysis, calculations, and designs for foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, seismic factors, and related structures. Supervise and review the work of geotechnical engineers, including reports, drawings, cost estimates, specifications, contracts, and construction support. Manage project planning to ensure work is fit for purpose, completed on schedule, and within budget. Provide project management, technical oversight, and mentorship while promoting high standards of professionalism, quality, safety, and continuous learning. Classify, interpret, and characterize ground conditions from geotechnical data for various structures, prepare reports (GIRs, GDRs), and contribute to the review and approval of design deliverables, including technical memoranda and construction drawings. Initially, this position specifically supports COWI’s role as the Owner’s Engineer for the Immersed Tube Tunnel portion of the new Fraser River Tunnel Project (FRTP). The FRTP project, which will replace the existing Massey Tunnel between Richmond and Delta, near Vancouver, BC, is being delivered through a Progressive Design-Build procurement. The ideal candidate will be the Coordination Lead for the geotechnical and seismic disciplines. In this role, the Coordination Lead will support the FRTP Project Manager in coordinating between the Client and Design-Builder, and the COWI geotechnical team. The position will require solid project management and technical skills and will provide opportunities to grow and develop leadership skills. The position will be based in COWI’s North Vancouver office, and a significant portion of the time is expected to be spent in the Client’s project office, located in downtown Vancouver. Your key responsibilities will be to: Coordinate the work of the geotechnical and seismic team for COWI as part of the FRTP project Collaborate closely with the Client, Owner’s Engineer Team, Design-Builder, Designer, and other Stakeholders during the design development Act as the coordinating professional to direct COWI’s work in geotechnical engineering, along with being responsible for accurate forecasting, scheduling, and budgeting for the assigned tasks. Contribute specialized skills to the FRTP project and other assigned projects, ensuring adherence to quality systems and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders Perform & review engineering analyses and design with a focus on seismic analysis and soil-structure interactions for retaining walls, foundations, underground structures, and marine structures Classify, interpret, and characterize ground conditions from geotechnical data for the design of different structures, including retaining walls, foundations, underground structures, and marine structures Contribute to production, review, and approval of design deliverables such as technical memoranda, geotechnical design reports, geotechnical interpretative reports, and construction drawings Provide input in digital delivery and information management of various projects from conception through to completion Your skills.
