Job Summary: The Loss Prevention Professional (LPO) is responsible for preventing theft and reducing shrinkage within retail or corporate environments. Working closely with management, the LPO ensures compliance with company policies, conducts surveillance, investigates suspicious activity, and assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees and customers. Key Responsibilities: - Monitor customer and employee activity to detect and prevent internal/external theft, fraud, and policy violations. - Conduct surveillance through CCTV systems and on-floor observations. - Apprehend and detain shoplifters in accordance with the Criminal Code of Canada and company policy. - Investigate incidents of theft, fraud, or misconduct and prepare detailed reports. - Partner with law enforcement when necessary, including providing statements or attending court proceedings. - Assist in training store employees on loss prevention awareness and best practices. - Perform audits of high-risk areas such as POS terminals, cash handling, and inventory. - Respond to emergency situations including evacuations, thefts, or disturbances. - Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and company safety standards. - Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in criminology, justice studies, or related field is an asset, but can be over looked with experience. - Valid Ontario Security Guard License (as required by the Private Security and Investigative Services Act). - 1-2 years of experience in loss prevention, security, or a related field preferred. - Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada as it applies to theft and apprehension. - Strong memory, attention to detail, observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. - Excellent communication and report-writing abilities. - Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. - Physical ability to stand for long periods and respond quickly in emergency situations. Work Environment: - Retail or corporate environment with both public-facing and back-of-house duties. - Covert operations reporting directly to the security manager via report at the end of each shift.
