ROLE
Becoming an Actuarial Data Scientist is the ideal opportunity to influence the usage of cutting edge advanced machine learning technology in the insurance industry and to have a visible effect on the product roadmap of one of the world’s foremost insurtech companies.
This position interacts with our Sales, Product and R&D departments in various ways. As an Actuarial Data Scientist, you will act as a subject matter expert, assisting the sales team to find the best use cases for Akur8’s software to provide the highest value to each client’s unique business practices.
You will also work with the Product team to recommend new features that might benefit our clients, and also with our R&D team to explore new applications of machine learning in the insurance industry.
You will be in direct technical reference with client contacts such as Heads of Pricing, Heads of Product, CTOs, Actuaries and Data Scientists.
You will lead product demonstrations with various audiences and oversee Akur8 proof of concept projects in an actuarial consultant type of role.
In addition to these technical client-facing responsibilities, you’ll also be able to impact on the design of product training, improvement of model development, as well as leading technical after-sales projects by providing modeling and actuarial support during sessions with clients.
Finally, you’ll also contribute to white papers and participate in / present at conferences to establish the leadership of Akur8 in North America and other markets.
You’ll be attached to our Montreal office, and occasional travel for business events will be required (a maximum of approximately one week per month).
PROFILE
The successful candidate must meet each of the following criteria in order to be considered for this position (elements in bold are things, without which, we will be unable to consider your application):
MANDATORY: 3-10 years experience in a P&C / General / Health insurance pricing role (as either a Pricing Actuary, Actuarial Consultant or Data Scientist etc.) ;
Ability to understand insurance business imperatives and establish solutions in accordance with them ; A strong understanding of Data Science and Machine Learning techniques for predictive modeling ; Experience in actuarial data-driven predictive modeling (GLMs / GAMs) & risk analysis in a P&C / General insurance pricing role ;
Strong communication skills in order to elaborate on complex technical concepts to both technical / non-technical audiences ; Readiness to travel when required (approximately one week per month) ;
Fluent English language skills.

We’re looking for Senior Front-end Software Engineers that have a strong interest in both cloud-computing & AI in order to help build our complex SAAS solution alongside our world-class tech teams.
Our Technical Leads will form feature teams - consisting of Frontend Software Engineers, Backend Software Engineers , Product Managers & Product Designers.
You will have the opportunity to be part of a newly formed engineering team focusing on a new product. This team will be responsible for building a new cloud-native product from the ground up, presenting an exciting technical challenge. You will leverage cutting-edge technologies and architectural patterns to create a scalable, resilient, and efficient solution that meets the evolving needs of our clients in the insurance industry.
As a Senior Front-end Software Engineer you’ll: Be one of the technical references for front-end technical subjects such as architecture and guidelines Work with our Product & Design teams to turn our vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter Maintain, evolve and evangelise Akur8’s front-end software development best practices (clean Code, automation test, reliability) to engineers, making sure that they are followed Design and build complex systems, focusing on performance, scalability, security, as well as crafting an attractive user experience Testing as a part of the development process through unit, integration and E2E tests; Collaborate with backend engineers to deliver our machine learning pipelines.

Candidates must be team players with excellent interpersonal skills. They must also have solid, proven experience architecting and building commercial quality business software applications, and a proven track record of development targeting Microsoft Azure and Windows operating systems.
A minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience as a Front-end Engineer OR Senior Full-Stack Developer with an emphasis on Angular 2+ Excellent knowledge of both RxJS and Typescript Strong appetite for design and CSS, how to produce reusable components and desire to collaborate with our product and design teams Knowledge of data structures and related algorithms and their implementation in code & databases Strong technical capabilities, especially with Microsoft development tools Good communication skills and a will to share your knowledge with your team Ability to produce good quality code and a good knowledge of software development best practices Aptitude for mathematics, with the ability to understand and implement statistical and financial calculations Excellent English skills, and ability to write and speak clearly and effectively Ability to work independently

ROLE
Our Engineering team is the driving force behind an exhilarating development journey, sculpting the gold standard in insurance pricing software according to our ambitious development roadmap.
You are an experienced Software Engineer looking forward to being part of a global dynamic team. You have a client-first approach that will help us build our complex data-processing solution and objective-driven mindset and you have proactivity solving problems that matter for our deliveries and to our clients . You possess a sharp curiosity to understand both the smallest details, and the general purpose of the features being developed.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Collaborate with the team to design, develop, and enhance a new module for our platform, working across the full stack to deliver robust and scalable web solutions. Work closely with product managers and designers to refine features and user flows, contributing to the creation of a seamless user experience. Apply best practices in software development, including continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) and built-in high-quality testing. Participate in team discussions to ensure alignment on technical implementation and product goals. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code to support the growth of the platform. Being in close contact with our clients to ensure we develop software that exceeds their expectations.

PROFILE
4+ years of experience in software development. Be willing and eager to mentor newcomers and junior engineers Experience with backend development, preferably with Java and Spring Boot (or similar technologies). Experience with frontend development, ideally using TypeScript and Angular (or comparable modern frameworks). Familiarity with modern software development best practices such as TDD, BDD, and Hexagonal Architecture. Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms. A fluent level of spoken English
