We are looking for a talented Project Engineer (Studies) to join our Minerals & Metals business line in Toronto or Burlington. As a Project Engineer you will support the planning, coordination, and execution of capital and sustaining projects from concept through to implementation. The Project Engineer plays a key role in ensuring engineering deliverables meet technical standards, budget expectations, and project timelines, while supporting multidisciplinary collaboration across engineering, procurement, and construction functions. About the Role Act as Project Engineer for a variety of assignments across Ausenco’s client base. Participate in the development and administration of project implementation documentation, execution strategy, and/or procurement and contract packaging strategy. Coordinate and track engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and quality standards. Assist with analysis of project financial models and assist in financial benchmarking and reporting of major performance indicators. Manage interfaces between engineering / procurement / logistics / contracts and the construction team to to support seamless project execution. Prepare scopes of work, pricing schedules, construction support documentation, and technical reports. Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability assessments, and other project assurance activities. Developing estimates (CapEx) for studies through managing estimate models, collecting, entering data and conducting regular reviews. Monitor project cost, progress and schedule reports and coordinate action plans to correct deviations from plan in collaboration with the project manager. Provide input to weekly and monthly reports. Manage client relationships for potential and existing projects and interface directly with sub-consultants, and vendors. About You Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Mining Engineering (or related discipline). 5–8 years of experience in project engineering or EPCM environments, ideally within the mining and minerals industry. Ability to work closely with Clients, Contractors, Project Managers, Construction Managers and Engineering discipline leads to develop packages for execution. Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ISO, API, or CSA) is an asset. Estimating, Project Controls, Contract Management, Quality Management and/or Project Management experience is an asset. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with engineering tools, project controls, and scheduling software such as MS Project, Primavera P6, AutoCAD). Strong understanding of project lifecycles, technical documentation, and design coordination. Comprehensive understanding of project execution, project quality and project control methodologies A self-starter with experience in project leadership and engineering Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong people skills Effective decision making and influential negotiation skills Strong cross functional engineering knowledge with experience in a multi-disciplined engineering environment Ability to work collaboratively with multidiscipline teams and manage multiple priorities. As a senior member of the Electrical and Instrumentation team, you will lead and contribute to the execution of projects in conceptual and engineering phases for our clients in the Industrial and Mining sectors. About the Role Work efficiently with project managers, engineers, designers, and drafters in the preparation of deliverables to Ausenco and customer standards. Produce proposals for projects which involve man-hour and schedule estimates related to the Electrical scope of work. Prepare, review, and approve engineering studies and calculations including arc-flash and coordination, power flow, short-circuit studies and voltage drop for electrical distribution systems. Prepare, review, and approve engineering and design deliverables including but not limited to medium & low voltage power distribution single line diagrams, power and control schemes, equipment and cable tray layouts, cable schedules, cable and conduit routings, grounding, lightning, and lighting layouts. Prepare, review, and approve engineering specifications and technical bid evaluations for equipment such as power transformers, medium, and low voltage switchgear, medium voltage starters, motor control centers, variable frequency drives and large synchronous and induction motors. Review and approve vendor drawings and resolve vendor related issues and witness factory acceptance tests. Evaluate Value Engineering (cost cutting) items with respect to our level of risk. Technical competence and strong attention to detail Familiarity with industry codes and standards such as CEC, NFPA, NEMA and API. familiarity with international standards (e.g., NEC, IEC) is advantageous. A thorough understanding of power-related studies (Load Flow, Power Factor Correction, Protective Device Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash, and Ground Grid, as a minimum) is a key. Proficient with the ETAP and Microsoft Office Knowledge of electrical and controls design requirements for high voltage substations and utility interfaces is an asset. About the Role Preparelayouts and detail drawings in line with project requirements; Deliver design drafting according to required project timeframes and standards by coordinating and supervising project members, reviewing deliverables and preparing design and detail drawings in line with requirements; Overcome design/schedule issues by maintaining an overview of activity, communicating with the Principal Draftsperson and communicating issues in a timely manner; Maintain consistent design drafting standards across projects by communicating expectations and holding project members to account for standards; Comply with all of Ausenco corporate policies and procedures by adopting Ausenco Quality Assurance and Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies, procedures and requirements. About You Advanced diploma or equivalent in mechanical engineering technology 10 years of experience in Mechanical and Materials Handlingdesign drafting; 10 years of experience in Mechanical design and plant layout experience with crushing, grinding, materials handling, flotation, slurry, pumping, slurry agitation, particle size classification and separation would also be highly regarded; Experience inMechanical design and draftingof Mineral Processing Plants within a large project, multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM environment Proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
