    Position Overview:

    This is an opportunity to lead and grow a Mechanical Division.

    The Mechanical Division Manager is responsible for the performance, leadership and growth of Breck’s mechanical scopes in an industrial environment.

    Responsibilities:

    Build and Lead the Division

    Own the performance and profitability of the Mechanical Division including labour planning, productivity, cost control and results.

    Lead mechanical scopes including Boilermaker, Millwright, Pipefitter, Structural Steel work across industrial projects and shutdowns.

    Develop strong field leadership at the superintendent, general foreperson, trade lead, and foreperson levels.

    Build scalable systems and processes to support disciplined growth.

    Strengthen division culture around accountability, safety and execution excellence.

    Operational and Technical Oversight

    Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to quality standards.

    Maintain compliance with applicable codes, standards, quality requirements and client-specific specifications.

    Monitor productivity performance and implement improvements.

    Support project teams through critical path activities and complex field challenges.

    Workforce Planning

    Coordinate workforce planning with unions and dispatch halls to ensure appropriate crew composition, certifications and skill mix.

    Drive efficient workforce allocation to reduce downtime and maximize productivity.

    Address labour challenges decisively and professionally while maintaining strong working relationships.

    Work closely with the Projects team to ensure projects are set up for success from planning to execution.

    Support the development and review of required technical documentation including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Safe Work Plans (SWP), procedures and execution methodologies.

    Commercial and Business Development

    Own mechanical estimating and pricing strategy, driving bid competitiveness and outcomes.

    Support client engagement and long-term relationship development.

    Identify opportunities to expand mechanical services and improve margin performance.

    Participate in divisional planning, strategic planning and risk management discussions.

    Be the Mechanical Authority

    Act as the senior mechanical authority when execution challenges arise.

    Communicate clearly and directly with clients, project managers and field crews.

    Set high expectations and hold people accountable.

    Lead safety initiatives in high-risk mechanical environments including rigging, confined space, hot work and working at heights.

    Qualifications:

    PEng or other relevant degree or Red Seal trade certification required.

    Business or project management education considered an asset.

    8+ years leading teams

    Experience in Nuclear or other highly regulated industrial environments would be an asset.

    Proven experience managing multi-trade mechanical scopes in a unionized environment.

    Experience with estimating, cost control and contract performance.

    Strong commercial awareness and decision-making ability.

    Direct communicator with strong negotiation and leadership skills.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project); Primavera P6 is an asset.

    Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (driving abstract required).

    Organization Structure:

    The Mechanical Division Manager reports directly to the Director of Construction.

    Working Conditions:

    Travel to and between jobsites as required.

    Extended hours during shutdowns and critical project phases.

    Fast-paced industrial environment requiring focus, resilience and strong prioritization.

    Market Development

    Represent Breck with major clients, industry partners and community stakeholders.

    Lead strategic client development initiatives with mining, power generation, oil and gas and industrial and institutional sectors.

    Support proposal strategy for major projects, shutdowns and long-term maintenance contracts.

    Operational Excellence

    Establish and refine operational systems that improve productivity, quality, cost control across all projects.

    Oversee local estimating and project management functions to ensure strong execution and margin performance.

    Responsible for workforce and schedule planning.

    Implement best practices for project delivery, estimating accuracy and schedule performance.

    Monitor key performance indicators including labour productivity, equipment utilization, margins and safety performance.

    Ensure optimal supply chain and resource planning to support current and future workload.

    Leadership and Team Development

    Build, mentor and develop strong teams including supervisors, project team and support staff.

    Promote a culture of accountability, safety and continuous improvement across all levels.

    Ensure staff are effectively utilized and deployed to maximize productivity and performance. Develop succession plans and create growth opportunities for high performing team members.

    Safety Leadership

    Champion Breck’s safety culture and lead by example in all operational decisions.

    Ensure projects consistently meet or exceed client and regulatory safety standards.

    Participate in safety reviews, incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Risk and Financial Management

    Oversee contract execution and ensure commercial risks are identified and managed appropriately.

    Review project margins, contract performance and change management processes.

    Identify opportunities to increase revenue and reduce costs.

    Analyze financial and operational data to guide decision making to improve business performance.

    Qualifications

    7+ years of leadership experience in industrial construction related field.

    Extensive knowledge of business functions including operations, finance, project management and procurement.

    Strong commercial awareness with experience in estimating, cost control and contract performance.

    Proven ability to lead teams, build client relationships and drive operational results.

    Strong analytical and decision-making skills.

    Business education considered an asset.
