Role Description
Reporting to the local Chief Underwriting Officer, the Senior Underwriter will be responsible for applying sound underwriting judgement in evaluating facultative risks referred by client companies. The successful candidate must have the capacity for the timely turnaround of cases which meet agreed client service standards and ensure that the highest quality of service delivery is met.
The successful candidate should possess the motivation and aptitude to assume more strategically focused responsibilities in the longer term. It is critical that the Underwriting Consultant be attracted to the prospect of working in an entrepreneurial environment and that he/she possesses the communication skills and confidence necessary to engage, on a daily basis, with senior level clients and colleagues. He/she will play a critical role in raising the profile, as a member of “the Company’s” service offerings in Canada and supporting its corporate objectives.
Key Responsibilities include:
Provide sound underwriting judgement on all facultative cases, within approval limits, while holding signing authority of $1 to $3 million.
Respond to client queries by providing technical support, informed opinions and general counsel as a trusted partner and underwriting SME.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients through daily communication and by visiting them at their home offices.
Regularly update and maintain the most current underwriting requirements on behalf of clients.
Provide support for Actuarial, Administrative and Marketing departments and periodically work on ad hoc inter‑departmental projects.
Periodically undertake client audits to ensure adherence to agreed customer risk profiles, underwriting policies, and operational processes.
Contribute to initiatives that improve operational efficiencies, mitigate enterprise‑wide risk, and ensure that the standards of underwriting and auditing policies are met.
Represent the Branch at national and regional underwriting meetings, conferences, and industry workshops.
Keep abreast of evolving underwriting practices and consistently research industry trends, sharing valuable learnings with the Chief Underwriting Officer and the rest of the senior leadership team.
Document and present the results of client visits to the senior leadership team as necessary.
Establish, promote, and develop effective business relationships with internal colleagues.
When directed can support the review of contestable claims.
Role Qualifications and Experience
University level education ideally in a business, finance or economics-related discipline, combined with at least 8 years of underwriting experience with expertise in life underwriting and preferably with both critical illness & disability underwriting.
FLMI, AALU or FALU designation is desirable, or underway, or a commitment to immediately undertake skills and leadership training and accreditation.
Proven track record in managing underwriting and client management responsibilities effectively, ensure the highest quality of performance and professional service.
Refined verbal and written communication skills with ability to articulate complex information to internal and external stakeholders in a clear, concise and focused manner.
A self‑sufficient and resourceful underwriting professional who demonstrates flexibility, efficient time management skills and the ability to prioritize.

Role Description
We are seeking a recently qualified ASA or ACIA with a minimum of 2 years’ experience to join our team as an Individual Life Valuation Actuary. In this role, you will be responsible for performing actuarial valuations and analyses related to individual life, group and health insurance products across Canada and the US. Role Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
Demonstrated progress in passing SOA sponsored actuarial examinations on the pathway to becoming a credentialed actuary (ASA or FSA) or progress toward ACIA/FCIA via the Canadian actuarial pathway).
Knowledge of US statutory, US GAAP, IFRS 17 and LICAT requirements and industry best practices, and other relevant insurance reserve methodology and requirements.
Proficiency in actuarial modeling software, preferably GGY-AXIS.
Strong technology skills including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and SQL.
