The Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Specialist/Engineer opening is a current vacant position at General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada. The base salary hiring range for this position is $70,400 to $92,400 per year. Once in the role, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through the full salary range based on performance. Job Description The Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) role has the responsibility to ensure that the GDLS‑C products comply with the applicable E3 requirements. In order to fulfill this responsibility the E3 collaborates with the designers during design development, reviews E3 requirements and their internal and 3rd party compliance artifacts, presents E3 design assessments and investigates issues to determine risk mitigations. Finally the E3 witnesses 3rd party E3 testing, supports customer testing, and plans, executes and reports on vehicle level E3 testing.

    Key Job Elements:

    Reviews, develops and may negotiate the Electromagnetic (EM) Environmental Effects (E3) requirements at component, sub‑system and system (e.g. vehicle) level

    Develops training and guidance documents to support the design teams with EM risk mitigation techniques including Grounding and Bonding (G&B), shielding and harness separation.

    Reviews, provides feedback and approves suppliers/vendors E3 compliance artifacts

    Develops component, sub‑system and system (e.g. vehicle)test plans, executes internal and customertests anddevelops and submitstest reports.

    Sets up and employs test equipment such as vector network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, VSWR meters, oscilloscopes, power meters, power supplies, signal generators, micro‑ohmmeters, RF amplifiers, LISNs, test antennas/transducers and high frequency E/H field probes

    Gets involved with the management of test equipment, including selection, procurement, maintenance, calibration and operation while observing applicable safety protocols.

    Investigates, identifies root cause and provides solutions to address E3 issues on vehicles, sub‑systems and components.

    Performs computer simulations to determine antenna placement, antenna radiation patterns and antenna cosite interference, including cable coupling; Radiation Hazard (RADHAZ) to personnel (HERP), ordnances (HERO) and fuel (HERF).

    Reviews applicable standards (MIL, IEEE, SAE etc) for relevance and advise designers, suppliers and customers on limitations or need for tailored approaches to perform analysis or testing according to acceptable/negotiated deviations from standards

    Prepares and presents E3 assessments at internal and customer design reviews.

    Assess E3 technical gaps, support technology, capability, and product roadmap activities to ensure business is best positioned to achieve its Operating Plan, and maintain competitive solutions.

    Position Requirements:

    University Degree or College Diploma in a related field

    Minimum 5 years Electrical Engineering or Design Engineering experience

    Superior analytical skills to solve technical problems at component, sub system or system level

    Superior oral and written communication skills including effective presentations and technical report writing

    High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment

    Supervisory experience managing technical staff

    Advanced computer skills in MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

    Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
