  • Description Your role at GEI. To augment our exciting and continued growth, GEI is looking for highly motivated senior materials testing & inspection and geotechnical professionals who are interested in working collaboratively with a talented team of design, management, and technical leaders. GEI will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to successfully deliver construction materials testing, inspection and geotechnical design/engineering solutions for our clients throughout the Southern Ontario market. Essential Responsibilities & Duties Provide construction materials testing & inspection and geotechnical engineering expertise and project management on a wide variety of projects including land development, buildings, highways, bridges, retaining walls, slope stability, and municipal infrastructure. Supervise, direct, train, and mentor all field staff and provide leadership in construction materials testing/inspection and geotechnical disciplines, including compaction testing, concrete/asphalt sampling and testing, foundation subgrade inspections, reinforcing steel inspection, proof-rolls, pile inspections, etc. Direct preparation and/or supervision of junior to intermediate technician and engineering staff on preparation of summary & technical reports, field inspection reports, referencing municipal and provincial specifications, and other written documentation. Work closely with GEI’s laboratory manager and potentially oversee all laboratory operations and ensure compliance with CCIL requirements, including sieves, proctors, concrete compressive strength, hydrometers, Atterbergs, specific gravity, etc. Perform the duties of Radiation Safety Officer (or alternate) to ensure compliance with all CNSC licensing requirements for portable nuclear gauges. Prepare proposals and provide key contributions to regional marketing and business development activities, including development of client relationships. Provide support where required on geotechnical, hydrogeological and environmental subsurface investigations and reporting. Promote health and safety in all aspects of work. Ability to spend time in the field, depending on experience level/project specifics. Minimum Qualifications University degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field, with 10+ years of civil and geotechnical engineering experience in Southern Ontario. P. Eng. certification required. Candidates without a P.Eng. will be considered if extensive work experience can be shown. Strong fundamental knowledge of principles of construction materials testing & inspection, geotechnical engineering, and soil mechanics. Experience in working on a variety of sizes and types of projects for various client types. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, MS Office, MS Project, and other computer applications. Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle. We are GEI. The successful candidate will gain experience and mentorship from leading technical experts in geotechnical and hydrogeological engineering. Over time, the candidate will work towards their Professional Engineer designation. Positions are available for GEI’s Barrie, Markham and Kitchener offices. Adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans prepared for each project site and participate in site safety briefings and audits. Prepare detailed notes and take photographs to document the procedures used and observations made during field work. Assist with reviewing soil and bedrock samples, and assist with selecting samples for laboratory testing. Aid in preparation of technical reports, memos, analysis and specifications. Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in geotechnical/civil engineering or related field. Able to work in a team and independently, and outdoors in all weather conditions. As a Project Geoscientist, you’ll work directly with clients to solve complex geoscience challenges using cutting‑edge software like Leapfrog Energy, Oasis Montaj, and Volsung. You’ll be part of a global technical services team, collaborating across time zones and disciplines to deliver impactful solutions. A Project Geoscientist is building towards advanced level expertise on the workflows facilitated by Seequent Solutions for fast, accurate, subsurface model building and stakeholder collaboration. In further contributing to the big picture, this role will have the opportunity to diversify their skills by providing assistance to the software development teams based in New Zealand. Working with the commercial team (Account Managers and Inside Sales) to further opportunities by: Use Seequent’s information platforms to understand client portfolios, user diversity, and organizational structures. Keep client accounts in CRM updated (health checks, software upgrades, user updates, training, etc.) to ensure accurate and current information. Communicate customer feedback to software development and product teams—acting as the voice of the customer in North America. To be successful in this role, you should have: Bachelor’s or master's degree in Geoscience, Geology, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the Energy sector, ideally in geothermal, CCS, or related subsurface domains. Proven experience in geological and geophysical modeling, with a strong understanding of subsurface workflows. Experience with reservoir modeling is considered an asset. Demonstrated experience delivering technical training or workshops, both in‑person and virtually. Familiarity with Seequent Solutions (e.g., Leapfrog Energy, Oasis Montaj, and Volsung) is highly desirable. Fluency in English is required, proficiency in French or Spanish is considered an asset. Location and additional Information This is a full‑time role at a minimum of 3 days per week. Occasional business travel up to 30% of the time may be required.
