    with interest in Power Systems to work in eGRID. This person can be based out of any of the following Hatch offices: Winnipeg, Montreal, St. John’s, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Amherst NY

    Responsibilities

    Work on a variety of generation and transmission types including renewable energy, HVDC and FACTs

    Perform electrical studies including power flow, short circuit, protection coordination, transient and dynamic, and others using electrical design software such as RTDS, PSCAD, PSSE, PSLF, etc.

    Assist in the development of Technical Specifications for our projects

    Provide customer technical support for the operations & maintenance of renewable energy, HVDC and FACTs systems including procedural, troubleshooting and performance analysis

    Support the design of various power generation and transmission systems

    Prepare presentations and reports

    Write technical papers and present at conferences to demonstrate expertise in the field and engage clients

    Support the business development efforts, including fostering relationships with existing clients, preparing proposals for new work, identifying market areas and pitching clients

    Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment

    Conduct site visits, factory visits, field assessments and client engagement meetings

    What you bring to the role

    Technical experience with HVDC and FACTS, generators, transmission lines, or related

    Academic or work experience with PSCAD, RTDS, PSSE, PSLF, EMTP, Easy Power, or related software programs.

    Minimum 10 years’ experience with an Electrical Engineering or related degree with interest in power systems.

    Willingness and ability to travel to project sites including remote sites.

    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of operations, maintenance and switching requirements for electrical systems.

    Position Summary Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated

    Instrumentation and Control Engineer

    to join our team in Vancouver. This role is part of our Project Delivery Group, which helps clients reach their business goals through a range of strong technical capabilities. We ensure world-class project delivery through the skills of our people, methodologies, governance, and systems.

    The

    Instrumentation and Control Engineer

    will report to the Project Manager on small projects and for larger projects, either be or report to the to the Control and Automation Lead Engineer and lead the design on these projects.

    You will support our senior and junior engineers and designers in delivering projects which involve instrumentation and controls engineering. You will also be responsible for assisting the development and management of assigned project work during all phases, from inception through to planning, design & construction in accordance with the project scope, schedule and budget.

    Responsibilities / About the Role

    Provide technical and administrative support through all phases of a project.

    Assist with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope deliverables, cost and schedule.

    Prepare technical documentation required for the execution of the project

    Manage and coordinate the progress of the engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule and procedures.

    Review shop drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs.

    Following the award of contracts and purchase orders as instructed, monitor the fabrication and construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering designs.

    Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).

    Implementing corrective action as required.

    Review the outcome of quality audits of engineering work and perform remedial work in accordance with the project procedures and the quality assurance plan.

    Check of documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is implemented in accordance with project procedures.

    Prepare draft monthly engineering progress reports for incorporation into the engineering monthly report.

    On a monthly basis, provide an update of the progress of the engineering work packages.

    Compile Functional Control Specifications; perform programming of control systems

    Provide reviews, support, and mentorship to junior engineers and support senior engineers with execution of work.

    Education and Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University.

    6+ years project engineering experience. Mining experience would be an asset.

    Experience in instrumentation, control and automation design/consultancy ideally within a similar large engineering or multi-disciplinary project environment.

    Registered as a professional engineer with EGBC (Engineers and Geoscientists BC).

    Demonstrated “hands-on” site experience and able to work independently.

    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and resolve issues.

    Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.

    PLC/DCS programming experience (Rockwell - preferred, DeltaV and ABB would be an asset).

    Sound knowledge of 3D data-centric design systems.

    Knowledge and experience with data-centric design systems, e.g. Smart Plant Electrical, Smart Plant Instrumentation would be an asset.

    AutoCAD experience, MicroStation is an asset.

    Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others.

    Good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Good planning and organizational skills.

    Ability to function with minimal supervision.

    Good safety awareness.

    Willingness to travel.

    Compensation Base salary range: $112,000 - $135,000

    As the successful candidate, you will:

    Work independently and as part of a team to complete control and automation engineering design deliverables for a variety of projects.

    Prepare Control and Automation deliverables, including but not limited to:

    Instrumentation and Control Design Criteria

    Communication design criteria (wireless networks, fiber optic networks)

    Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)

    Procurement packages for instrumentation and plant control system equipment (specifications, technical bid evaluation, vendor data review)

    Engineering Lists (Instrument Index, I/O Lists, Cable Schedules, material take-offs)

    Design Deliverables (Interconnection diagrams, Loop Drawings, Layout drawings, Installation drawings, Control Panel Layouts, Control System Architecture)

    Functional Descriptions and Control Philosophy

    Program using PLC and/or DCS as per project requirements

    Develop factory acceptance test and software acceptance test checking procedures

    Become knowledgeable about instrumentation and control equipment design and their practical applications, regional codes and standards, various engineering design tools and applications, and Hatch’s quality procedures

    Work collaboratively in a multi-discipline environment to deliver the best solution for our clients

    Assist our senior engineers and designers with their responsibilities including but not limited to checking engineering deliverables, attending design reviews, quality reviews and participating in site inspections and walkdowns.

    Willing and able to travel to project sites (office and construction) including remote site locations

    You bring to the role:

    Must be working towards graduating in 2026, or recently graduated, with a Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Applied Science, or Master of Engineering degree in

    Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering

    from an accredited University.

    Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community

    Interest in Control Systems engineering and communication systems will be considered an asset.

    Previous co‑op or work terms in the controls, automation and electrical engineering design and execution will be considered an asset.

    Technical experience with controls systems design, databases, programming, ability to use data‑centric design tools and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) will be preferred.

    Compensation: Range: $81,000.00 - $84,000.00
