In addition, the increasing number of large loads such as Data Centers makes the role of transmission planners more important than ever in shaping the grid of the future. As a transmission planning and studies engineer, you will closely work with regional and global power systems teams to support and/or lead ongoing projects as well as business development and proposal support with a number of utility clients focused in the Northeast US.

    The successful candidate shall demonstrate related experience and technical knowledge in transmission planning and bulk system studies, planning processes and strong familiarity with FERC, NERC and NPCC standards and processes, as well as direct experience with at least one of the following ISOs: ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, and/or IESO. A strong background and experience in performing system impact studies and transmission planning using PSS/E, TARA, and PSCAD is a must. This position is flexible anywhere in North America; preference will be given to candidates located in the Northeast (including New York, Boston, Toronto or Philadelphia).

    Responsibilities

    Perform a variety of steady-state and transient power system studies.

    Participate in meetings with utilities as part of project delivery or business development.

    Lead or support projects throughout the whole lifecycle (from the technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, and close-out).

    Work closely with team members across North America and globally.

    Participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and other applicable technical committees and stay up to date with latest standards and requirements.

    Qualifications

    Advanced degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering from a recognized institution.

    Minimum 4 years of direct experience with power system studies using PSS/E, TARA and/or PSCAD.

    Strong background with at least one of the following system operators: ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, IESO.

    Up-to-date knowledge and experience with NERC, FERC, and NPCC reliability standards.

    Team player with strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

    Ability and willingness to travel within North America.

    Ideally, You’ll Also Have

    Direct experience with National Grid and/or Eversource.

    Experience with large loads such as data centers.

    Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) license.

    Advanced knowledge of various protection relaying functions including line protection, transformer protection, breaker failure, cap bank protection, communication-based schemes, differential protection, etc.

    Perform conceptual planning phase protection and control studies including protection philosophy, basis of design, and fault studies.

    Perform P&C related studies such as protection coordination, PT/CT sizing, TCC curves, relay coordinations etc.

    Familiarity with P&C related standards such as IEEE and NERC.

    Familiarity with ASPEN OneLiner, PSS CAPE, or similar software packages.

    Contribute to the delivery of projects, delivering on time and to budget.
