Senior Structural Engineer - Mass Timber & Modular Construction
Salary Range: $125K - $155K

About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with expertise in mass timber design and connection systems to lead innovative projects across North America. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives on solving complex structural challenges and shaping the future of sustainable construction.
Key Responsibilities
Assist client structural design for mass timber and modular systems (CLT, glulam, LVL, NLT/DLT), utilizing KNAPP Mass Timber and Modular connectors Engineer connections and fasteners: concealed connectors, steel plate assemblies, glued-in rods, self-tapping screws, dowels, and hybrid timber-steel interfaces. Perform advanced analysis and design per U.S. and Canadian codes (IBC/NBC, ASCE 7/NBCC, AWC NDS/SDPWS, CSA O86). Address timber-specific performance criteria: fire resistance, vibration, moisture, creep, and differential movement. Prepare and review calculations, drawings, and specifications; provide construction administration and site support. Collaborate with client engineers, architects, fabricators, and contractors to ensure constructability and CNC-friendly detailing. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal standards and best practices. Lead ICC certification and testing projects with consulting engineers Participate in new product development for next-generation connection systems
Qualifications
Experience: 5-10+ years in structural engineering with at least 5 years in lead design roles; proven expertise in mass timber connections and fasteners. Licensure: PE or SE (U.S.) and/or P.Eng. (Canada) required; multi-jurisdiction registration is an asset. Technical Skills: Proficiency with timber design codes (AWC NDS, CSA O86, PRG-320) and structural analysis tools (ETABS, SAP2000, RFEM, RISA, WoodWorks, Tekla, Revit). Strong understanding of fire design, vibration/serviceability, and hybrid systems. Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with multidisciplinary teams. Eligible to work in the U.S. and/or Canada.
Preferred Skills
Experience with tall mass timber (Type IV-A/B/C), seismic detailing, and diaphragm design. Familiarity with CNC fabrication workflows and DFMA principles. Knowledge of sustainability metrics (LCA, embodied carbon).
