The Construction Estimator is pivotal in directing, managing, and coordinating construction project tendering and estimation processes. This role involves exploring bidding opportunities, preparing detailed estimates of materials, labor, and equipment costs, and deciding on tendering procedures. The Construction Estimator will analyze tendered costs, recommend tenders, and handle negotiations, ensuring comprehensive estimates based on documentation and bid conditions. Additionally, the role includes managing the debriefing process to improve future bid submissions. Key Responsibilities Bid Exploration and Evaluation: Identify and explore bid opportunities through various platforms and industry contacts. li>Analyze and assess tender documents, including risk assessments for potential projects. Document Assembly and Review: Gather and review all relevant documents, including project plans and specifications, during the bid period. Meet with clients and inspect construction sites to understand project requirements fully. Resource Assessment and Management: Assign responsibilities to the estimating team based on bid requirements. Assess and quantify the required labor, materials, and equipment for projects. Obtain and evaluate multiple quotes for resources, negotiating to secure the best offers. Estimate Preparation: Prepare detailed estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and overheads. Perform precise quantity take-offs and draft proposals, including input on materials, costs, and time frames. Trade Awards and Cost Management: Review and recommend trade awards, establish and maintain estimate formats, and oversee cost monitoring systems. Draft pre-construction schedules and technical submissions, providing advice on potential project risks and costs. Debriefing and Documentation: Manage the debriefing process to leverage insights for future bids. Maintain records of all estimation-related documentation and assumptions for future reference. Post-Bid and Project Support: Follow up on bid awards and collaborate with the site team to review cost and expenditure statements regularly. Maintain a comprehensive database of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, updating price lists and monitoring market changes. Liaison and Communication: Consult and communicate effectively with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors. Stay informed about market price changes and adjust the database as needed. Additional Support: Assist the project team with procurement processes and cost management as required. Primary Skills and Qualifications Experience: Minimum of 3 years estimating experience with a general contractor in the ICI sector. Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in estimating software, including MS Excel, Project, and Bluebeam. Ability to forecast costs for complex, multi-disciplinary construction projects. Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of technical and non-technical construction documents, various contract forms, and tender procedures. Skills: Exceptional research, proposal writing, and negotiation skills. Proven ability to work with sales personnel, suppliers, and subcontractors. Attributes: Self-starter, reliable, conscientious, and articulate. Education: Degree in a construction-related discipline or similar field is advantageous. P.Q.S. or equivalent qualification is a plus. Project management qualification would be an advantage.
