We believe that our greatest opportunity is to create opportunity and meet people where they are. The IT Risk Oversight Specialist is a member of Meridian Credit Union’s Risk Management Team. The IT Risk Oversight Specialist is responsible to build, own, and manage an IT risk oversight program providing analysis, independent oversight reporting, and overall second line oversight and effective challenge of Meridian’s IT Governance and Information Security programs. The role will act as a trusted business advisor to internal partners with respect to IT risk management best practices, processes, and procedures. Key Responsibilities

    Lead/participate in all internal and external IT Audit and assessment activities. This includes working with the IT Governance and InfoSec team to develop, communicate, and maintain an annual audit plan and schedule, working with executives, senior management, IT subject matter experts, and third-party auditors and assessors. Work with Internal Audit Services and External Auditors on planning and executing audit engagements, including independent control testing as appropriate. Monitor and track IT Audit management commitments and remediation activities to ensure commitment dates are met. Oversee the centralized tracking of internal IT & InfoSec documentation to meet regulatory objectives (e.g. COBIT, ISO), ensuring all documentation required for audit and assessments are maintained and kept updated on required cycles. Develop, maintain, collect, challenge, and oversee metrics related to 1st line activities. Oversight of IT Governance and InfoSec function : Create and maintain second line of defence oversight role, program, responsibilities, and processes related to IT Governance and InfoSec’s management of IT and Information Security risks. Partner with IT Governance and InfoSec to actively contribute to the development of IT risk policies, frameworks, and mandates. Monitor IT and Information Security measures and key risk indicators and review and challenge IT Governance and InfoSec's functional designs, data, and processes. Assess the adequacy of IT and Information Security risk appetite and recommend updates. Participate in risk policy and metrics development and maintenance. Report on Meridian’s compliance with Policies, risk appetite, etc. to Meridian management and Board of Directors. Support Risk Leadership in the management and execution of several enterprise-wide risk programs that have a strong focus on IT risk elements, including:

    Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programs, including quarterly ERM assessments, risk appetite setting/monitoring, and initiative risk assessments. Operational Risk Management Framework; Business Continuity Management Program, including elements of the Crisis Management Team (CMT) and Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT); and Scenario analysis, including inputs to the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP)

    Assist with the completion of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) for IT and related departments. Support and manage the broader IT risk management programs of all Meridian subsidiaries as required. AI and Data oversight

    Support Risk Leadership to develop/maintain the framework through which AI and Data risks are identified and assessed by the 2nd line. Maintain close relationships with Enterprise Analytics & Data team to provide oversight of AI and Data risk management programs. Oversee and provide reporting to management and the Board of Directors on the overall status of AI and Data risk management as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Experience related to IT governance/risk functions. Working knowledge of industry IT frameworks, such as COBIT and ISO 27001 & 27002. Knowledge of FSRA and OSFI regulation on IT and Information Security. Strong verbal communication and training skills with ability to facilitate a mix of technical teams and Senior Management. Strong interpersonal skills; able to interact independently (with minimal supervision) and competently with all levels of management, staff, and vendors. Ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships. Strong written communication skills with ability to write clear, easy to understand work (policy, procedures, plans, and technical documentation). Strong analytical and methodological skills with attention to detail Strong time management skills; able to prioritize and plan workload, meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and adapt to changing business needs. Service oriented and customer focused, with a passion for recognizing and introducing process improvement initiatives. Professional, subject matter expert with experience to be a highly effective internal consultant. Education, Designations, Training, and Experience

    5 years related industry/professional experience, with preference for 3+ years previous experience in an IT environment. A minimum of 3 years proven experience and knowledge of business and project management principles, methods, and techniques. Degree or diploma preferably in Business or Information Technology (or acceptable equivalent), with working knowledge of IT and COBIT principles and practices. Comfort learning and adopting new digital tools, with an openness to using AI-enabled technology to enhance productivity, accuracy, and the Member experience.     Responsibilities

    Manage relationships and partner with Members and insolvency professionals. Provide excellent service and be always professional in challenging scenarios.

    Develop and implement strategies to return high‑risk loans to performing, wherever possible, and minimize credit losses in situations where there has been a business failure.

    Manage Business Banking lending portfolios within Watch List and Loan Loss Provision benchmarks.

    Understand and keep track of market and regulatory changes and developments and incorporate into Member credit recovery strategy.

    Take action to protect Meridian against legal action and report / partner with Corporate legal on ongoing litigation matters.

    Assist with overall regulatory compliance by having responsibility for completion of monthly reporting as required under Board Credit Management policy.

    Maintain Watch List summary reporting, inclusive of action plans and key dates, in an effort to reduce exposure and provide regular disclosure.

    Provide effective stewardship to the Commercial Credit lending portfolio, contributing to regular monthly reviews of portfolio credit quality through established measures. Proactive risk management and accuracy of Credit Agreement / Forbearance Agreement preparation.

    Enhance the profile of the Commercial Credit team through the organization through open communication, highlighting the role of Commercial Credit in contributing to the credit risk management function, in support of a differentiated brand and contributing to Meridian’s overall sustainable profitability.

    Create efficiency in the credit approval process through streamlined applications, refined processes and by leveraging enhanced automation in monitoring borrower default risk.

    Foster a culture of shared, proactive risk management with Delivery partners.

    Work in partnership with Finance to review and agree Loan Loss Provision Reporting on a monthly basis.

    Work in partnership with external auditors to verify and validate Loan Loss Provision for Impaired Members to support PWC’s efforts in approving Meridian’s Audited Financial Statements.

    Build strong relationships and partner with specialist legal, accountants and Trustees (Receivership Accountancy firms) to implement insolvency strategy, tactics and execution in a timely manner.

    Achieve at minimum “Satisfactory” audit results on external and internal audit reviews and act on audit recommendations for enhancements.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    Relationship Management experience with Members. It is a prerequisite to have experience as a Commercial or Corporate Banking Relationship Manager.

    The ability to distill important information and communicate concisely both verbally and in writing. Communication needs to be tailored to the audience, which will include Meridian Executive and Board Members as well as Financial Regulators.

    Understanding of all types of real estate lending (land, construction, all income‑producing asset types).

    Understanding of cashflow lending (leveraged finance, GSA lending).

    Commercial and Corporate finance experience is beneficial.

    Experience of syndicated lending financing with Schedule 1 Banks and Credit Union participations.

    Insolvency / workout experience and ability to build on existing and develop new relationships with insolvency professionals.

    The key technical skills required are analytics, diligence, objectivity, insight, accuracy, flexibility and creativity. A culture of shared, proactive risk management with Sales and Relationship partners is to be fostered.

    Strong understanding of commercial business structures and excellent analytical skills in the areas of financial statements, cash flow mechanics, and business plans.

    Sound understanding of commercial lending security documentation, including work‑out techniques and remedies.

    Strong negotiation skills, coupled with a demonstrated ability to initiate action to achieve results and meet deadlines while respecting fundamental corporate values.

    Drive and determination is key. Time management skills and ability to move credit requests forward under pressure is important.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Educating and developing Senior Credit Analysts and other colleagues to support succession planning and individual development plans / improve Meridian’s bench strength for the future.

    Strong computer competency (Word/Excel/Outlook).

    Salary Range CAD $95,000 to $140,000 annually. Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity.     The role:

    12‑month contract opportunity The Senior Data Scientist will be a pivotal member of the Enterprise Data and Analytics Team, responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced analytics and AI models.     What you will do: Business Impact

    Works collaboratively with the Regional Vice President, Wealth, Senior Practice Management Coach, and other licensed professionals as a member of a high performing team to establish a business plan to achieve sales growth and profitability targets, initiating course correction as necessary to increase the probability of achieving success.

    Responsible to grow wealth penetration rates within partner branches through internal and external new Member business development activities in coordination with Retail, Small Business, Wealth and Commercial partners.

    Through use of a thorough discovery process the IS/FP anticipates Member needs and provides a relevant plan to achieve their personal financial goals. When required, the IS/FP will look to refer opportunities to relevant Meridian partners.

    With the Member’s goals and best interests in mind, regularly reviews Member’s objectives and plans to determine whether life changes, economic changes or relevant planning metrics indicate a need for plan reassessment.

    Educates Members on relevant investment options and investment costs and provides trusted financial advice and service, clearly articulating the rationale for recommendations complimented by a clear understanding of the risks involved.

    Through a holistic view of the Members finances, the IS/FP helps Members balance the acquisition of assets against the need for liquidity to meet day to day expenses.

    Possesses current knowledge of all key wealth and retail banking products and services, understanding the benefits and constraints associated with each and utilizes this knowledge to meet Member’s needs and gain a competitive advantage.

    Prepares and interprets information for Members such as investment performance reports, financial document summaries and income projections establishing credibility and building trusting relationships through the provision of transparent, reliable and authentic advice that always reflects the best interest of the Member

    Takes ownership of problems, decisions and actions, arriving at solutions that balance both the best interests of Meridian and our Members.

    Working with your branch partners, leverage internal resources to proactively identify internal and external business development opportunities in order to garner new prospects.

    Leadership

    Provides consultation and expert advice to Branch Management and employees on technical, process or product related subject matter with the objective of educating others and generating awareness of Meridian’s wealth offering and elevating the profile of wealth with our Membership.

    Shares expertise through the coaching and mentoring, as appropriate, of other Meridian Advisors building the capability and knowledge of the less experienced team members.

    Guides discussion and provides assistance in resolving complex problems and finding creative wealth management solutions for Members.

    Promotes Meridian Credit Union within the community, modeling Meridian values while acting as an ambassador of the organization.

    Champions the delivery of seminars and workshops focused on retirement planning, estate planning and other timely financial planning topics with the objective of increasing Member awareness and attracting new Members and business to Meridian.

    Fosters an environment where Member Focus and Wealth is a priority.

    How you will succeed:

    Minimum of 3 years of financial services experience with a focus on broad based advising in the financial industry.

    CSC, CPH & WME (completed or near completion, to meet the proficiency requirements for becoming registered with a CIRO Investment Dealer firm).

    Attainment of or progress towards PFP or CFP is required.

    CIM, TEP or other relevant designations would be considered an asset, and may be required to obtain in this role.

    Fulfillment of regulatory requirements to maintain all necessary securities registrations.

    Strong business builder with the ability to source new business through internal and external resources.

    Have current in-depth knowledge of:

    the investment and wealth management industry

    related wealth product solutions,

    tax effectiveness strategies

    Estate & Trust Planning considerations

    Retirement, cash-flow and income planning concepts

    Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing basic software tools for contact management, investments, education and retirement planning.

    Ability to travel inter-branch within the designated region and flexibility with schedules.

    Salary Range: CAD $71,000 – $85,000 annually Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range.     What you will do:

    Act as the Wealth subject‑matter expert on enterprise initiatives that enhance wealth distribution, advisor effectiveness, and member experience.

    Champion adoption of advisor technology platforms (eg CRM, Conquest Financial Planning, AdvisorStream, Capintel, etc.) by providing training, best practices, and ongoing support.
