The incumbent acts as a strategic consultant to administrators, program coordinators/managers, faculty, subject matter experts, and staff to support the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning experiences at the module, course, program, and department levels. They possess strong leadership and relationship building skills, are goal oriented, able to deal with conflicting priorities, and possess excellent communication skills. The incumbent has professional skills in the design and development of online, hybrid, and Hy-Flex teaching and learning plans including the ability to create resources, learning objects, custom websites, and interactive media, for use in the classroom and online. The incumbent also researches, explores, tests, and promotes the use of emerging trends in teaching and learning, including but not limited to online tools, teaching and assessment methods, lesson planning, and faculty development to support innovation in teaching and learning at Mohawk College, through formal and informal projects. What you’ll be doing: Designs and develops face-to-face, online, blended, hybrid, and Hy-Flex learning programs, courses, modules, and resources, in consultation with Curriculum & Program Quality Consultants (CPQC) by: Developing and creating effective teaching and learning scenarios, spaces, and opportunities within learning management systems, media authoring software, various networked systems, and on the open web. Re-developing of traditionally-delivered courses/materials to online, hybrid, or Hy-Flex learning format/mode. Creating multimedia applications, including digital imagery, video, and websites, and other digital resources, for use by teachers and students. Selecting appropriate software and technology tools to suit content and instructional requirements. Implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. Meeting or exceeding Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and AODA legislative requirements. Coordinating production of multimedia materials. Collaborating with CTLI colleagues, administration, faculty, and subject matter experts. Develops and delivers training sessions, workshops, communities of practice, one-on-one sessions, courses, and conferences by: Creating online, hybrid, and Hy-Flex programs, courses, modules, resources, and rich media. Facilitating and coordinating training. Providing quality professional learning opportunities for faculty through various delivery modalities and by modeling research backed instructional and facilitation techniques. Collaborating with other colleagues and team members. Consults with administration, program coordinators, subject matter experts, and faculty to assess their unique teaching and learning needs and create service plans to address them by: Responding to requests from administration and program coordinators to create customized plans to improve the quality of curriculum in face-to-face, online, hybrid, and Hy-Flex learning environments. Creating service plans including necessary faculty training, curriculum redesign, and evaluation methods along with appropriate milestones and timelines as agreed to by the requesting programs. Supporting programs and individual faculty in the use of teaching and assessment strategies, and technology for teaching with explicit concern for learning outcomes. Explores the potential of new teaching and learning strategies and technologies to improve learning outcomes by: Developing, installing, exploring, and testing new and emerging products, platforms, and methods within pilot projects. Maintaining currency with teaching and assessment strategies, and learning technologies and hardware. Identifying and researching products and teaching methods which may have potential value to the College. Collaborating with other team members. A Post Graduate degree is highly preferred/desired. Minimum five (5) years experience with: Practical experience in/with: Instructional Design/Learning/Educational technologies/design, development, delivery and evaluation of user training/Curriculum design and evaluation. Consultation and client service supporting multiple levels within an organization. Project Management experience. Apex Wind Energy Substitutes Inc. is developing technology to enhance wind energy efficiency and adaptability. Mohawk will convert the existing surface model into a parametric model utilizing Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) standards within North America. Once the updated model is approved by Apex, a scaled prototype will be manufactured utilizing a common scaling factor to fit within the build limitations of Mohawks additive manufacturing equipment and commonly available bearings. The prototype will then be tested by Apex to validate its alignment with their simulations data. It is anticipated that due to the tolerances of the AM process, 2-3 prototypes will need to be produced to ensure the best chance of alignment. Under the direction of the General Manager, the Advanced Manufacturing Research Coordinator main mandate is to provide applied research support focusing on technical tasks for the proper completion of The Apex Wind Energy SONAMI project. The Advanced Manufacturing Research Coordinator will serve as technical support and interact with Apex, students, and Faculty members to conduct and support project tasks. The incumbent will serve as a technical resource proficient in developing the prototype needed in this project. The incumbent will assist with design, manufacture, and test a wind turbine. Specific to this project the turbine is 0.5m in diameter, so careful planning needs to be done in consideration as the largest printer can only print 0.35m; therefore, the part needs to be modular so it can print in pieces and assembled afterwards. The incumbent will act as a hands-on resource supporting the project, assist the research team lead and the Project Manager in the coordination of a range of applied research activities, through outreach to business and liaison with faculty and staff for project development and clients/suppliers relationship. What you’ll be doing: Project Development & Project Coordination Scope Apex Project deliverables, working with industry partner and project team to identify and define agreed upon project deliverables in collaboration with GM. Under the supervision of GM, develop and manage detailed project schedules and workplans; execute planning, organization and management of short-, mid- and long-term research and program evaluation, including design, program implementation, timelines and milestones. Delegate limited project tasks to student employees, provide mentoring and coaching to student employees active in project implementation. Ensure the successful delivery of commitments to industry partner, including project outcomes and associated IP, ensure project delivery within established scope, cost and timelines. Plan and maintain limited project budgets according to agree-upon project deliverables. Project Delivery Support & AMIC Operations Support In collaboration with GM, build and manage client and stakeholder relationships with Apex Wind Energy, liaise as necessary with internal and external stakeholders including funders, clients, and community members to support project delivery. Support staff in the planning and preparation of key documentation. Conduct experiments and/or technical setups based on direct instructions from senior research staff. Perform tasks as assigned and related to the Centre day-to-day activities. Identify and Track Relevant Industry Trends to Support AMIC Work Assist in tracking relevant manufacturing industry trends; and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to develop matching expertise and project capacity. Support in the preparation of briefing materials, reports, speaking notes and correspondence on current project activities. Prepare reports, documentation and communications in verbal and written formats for various stakeholders. Collect data and organize information required for project planning and execution. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating supply and consumable orders and required scheduled equipment maintenance within the shop, including sourcing quotes, submitting required paperwork to confirm budget and finance approval, and processing received goods and services as per the college’s procurement policy. The Technologist is responsible for overall shop housekeeping and developing, maintaining and sharing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for lab equipment and processes to ensure the overall health and safety within the labs. They are responsible for ensuring housekeeping and safety process are followed on a daily basis and reporting any violations to the Associate Dean following the policy and procedures. The incumbent’s working hours may vary from semester to semester depending upon program/course/ level delivery schedules. Work with the Associate Dean, Operations Manager, and purchasing officer to work within allocated budget. Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for lab equipment and lab processes in consultation with various SMEs and manufacturers as required. Receives ordered goods and materials as per college procurement policy and delivers to shops as required. Procures and replenishes lab inventories: tools, equipment, hardware, consumables, parts, supplies, etc. as needed; completes ordering process in accordance with established procedures. Working with faculty, to ascertain whether tools and equipment and work requested will fit program parameters Completes as-required lab equipment & supply inventory review in accordance with policies and procedures. Updates lab inventory records within Arcibus asset management system. Provides training to applicable personnel in relation to lab specific practices and procedures, and safety requirements. Maintains lab and equipment in clean, safe and orderly condition; checks and maintains safety equipment, secures lab supplies and equipment inventories. Works with faculty to create supply kits (where appropriate) for exercises and projects. Schedules tools and equipment to have sufficient test units for practical class; receives tools and equipment and initiates repair orders. Works with faculty to ensuring enough material and equipment is on hand and set up for expected student activities. Maintain and repair lab equipment, and fabricate instructional training aids Equipment types typically include a variety of stationary and hand-held power tools, hand tools, and other trainers, simulators and mechanical devices. Works with faculty to design/build new training simulators or devices. Create and maintain a preventative and predictive maintenance schedule for shop equipment and tools to ensure operations during program and apprenticeship delivery to avoid downtime. Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, replace or arrange for external repairs where necessary. Obtain and set up special lab equipment and supplies; including performing tests and/or dry runs on lab exercises to verify the desired outcome and results. Repairs defective tools and equipment and/or teaching aids after classes are finished. Ensures appropriate and safe storage of lab supplies and equipment. Assist in orientation of new faculty/students to the lab operations as required. Maintains applicable lab equipment operation, maintenance and service manuals, parts catalogs, etc. Follows preventative maintenance schedules and processes, and assists to arrange for the inspection and certification of equipment and tools in accordance with industry regulations and standards. Researches equipment requests from faculty that support a wide variety of classroom initiatives, new technologies, student projects and curriculum learning outcome requirements. Obtains necessary approvals, designs & obtains necessary supplies; fabricates training aids; locating or developing instructional material on device operation, testing and diagnosis. Health & Safety Facilitates implementation and reinforcement of health and safety practices and standards per College and program/lab requirements. Identifies potential safety issues, and recommends and/or implements appropriate solutions. Follows Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines. Ensure general housekeeping is maintained in all shops/labs. Identifying potential safety issues, and recommending/ implementing appropriate solutions. Conducting laboratory inspections, and implementing and coordinating corrective action to ensure compliance with external governing bodies. Support an environment that Health & safety polices, housekeeping and standard operating procedures are followed. Creates and updates equipment work instructions, safety manuals and lab Safety Data Sheets. Creates and/or collaborates to create Standard Operating Procedures for faculty and student reference; diagnoses and/or repairs equipment (where feasible) on demand during lab sessions. Ensures safe storage, handling, and disposal of all supplies, equipment and materials; follows college processes related to WHMIS and for disposal/recycle of waste; maintains current safety documents and ensures current SDS are filed for newly acquired materials.
