  • MINISTRY JOB DESCRIPTION Associate Pastor Langham Evangelical Bible Church is in search of an Associate Pastor who has a love for preaching the Word of God and a heart for the younger family-unit. Our church is in Langham, SK, a bedroom community 15 minutes from the edge of Saskatoon. We have a local population of 1,500 that increases to approximately 2,000 with surrounding acreages and a river community to the north. The population has gotten steadily younger over the past 10 years to the point where our elementary school could only handle Kindergarten to Gr.3 children; the rest requiring extra space at our High School. As our Senior Pastor advances in his Ministry, and we see a steady increase in young families throughout the community, our desire is to meet both those needs and opportunities.

    Position Purpose Primary focus

Engage in a preaching and teaching ministry as part of a congregation of approx. 120 attendees. This position may start out with a 50% preaching schedule but has the anticipation that leadership responsibilities may continue to grow/evolve, with the potential to assume Senior Pastor responsibilities, congregation willing.

    Secondary focus

Be active in the organizing and administration of children’s ministries.

Motivate and encourage the congregation to grow and serve together.

    Qualifications

Must exhibit a growing relationship with God and be a passionate and obedient follower of Jesus Christ.

Must fulfill the character qualifications as set out in 1 Timothy 3:2-7 and Titus 1:6-9.

Must have a consistent devotional and prayer life.

Must be in full agreement with our Statement of Faith and Church Constitution.

Must complete the FEBC’s (Fellowship of Evangelical Bible Churches) Application for Ministry.

Must have a heart for, and be committed to, seeing young people grow and mature spiritually in Christ; and help to foster a desire in them to share the Word and disciple others.

Is someone who has the gifts of organization, administration and coordination; and loves to use them to bless and encourage the church.

Is someone comfortable encouraging and motivating others to fulfill their God-given potential and utilize their gifts in service and grow in their relationship with Christ.

Must be comfortable reaching out to new people, families and children in the church and community.

Strong communications skills with the ability to engage audiences of all ages. Must have a desire to clearly communicate the inherent Word of God in a way that is relevant and applicable to the lives of the congregation.

Should be self‑motivated, humble, teachable, flexible and a life‑long learner.

The gift of creativity would likely be an asset in helping to engage and encourage children’s ministries.

Able to walk alongside others in their trials and struggles, offer Biblical insight where applicable, and direct to further guidance where needed.

Should have Bible college or seminary education.

    Responsibilities Preaching & Teaching

Excited and motivated to preach approximately 2 times per month (50% or so); more often if desired when tackling a series.

Bring a devotional for either of our Jr. or Sr. youth groups on an as‑needed, as‑desired basis.

Lead Adult Sunday School as part of a group of leaders.

    Coordination, Organization, Administration

Help to organize, coordinate and administer some of the components of children’s ministries. LEBC currently has a Ministries Coordinator, so the anticipation would be for the Associate Pastor to help provide guidance and oversight for matters such as: helping with registrations, helping to organize club meetings, training youth workers on child protection policy, engaging with club and youth parents when possible and necessary, being part of curriculum discussion, being part of opportunities discussion, budgeting and reporting, etc.

    Motivation & Encouragement

Help to recruit, motivate and train volunteers for service; including children’s ministries and in the community.

Work with the men of our church to help them grow in their God‑given roles as fathers, spiritual leaders under Christ in the home, and humble servant‑leaders in the church. The ability to motivate, spur, challenge and bring someone under his wing would be assets.

    Other

Leave time for unplanned needs that will arrive from time to time. Life happens and we want to be prepared to address needs and concerns within the congregation and community when they arise.

The Associate Pastor would report directly to the Senior Pastor and Elder Board.

    Compensation and Benefits

Flexibility in the position to adapt to life and challenges that sometimes arise in pastoral ministry.

Full‑time salaried position based on experience, education, stage of life and family size.

Enrollment in a group insurance plan (Life/Health/Dental/Vision/Disability Insurance).

Allowances for sick days, phone, mileage and professional development.

Matching compensation amount offered on a yearly basis for an individual investing in their retirement.
