The current remuneration arrangement is a set daily rate as per the provincial hospitalist agreement with a stipend, plus fee-for-service billings for on-call work. At the Aberdeen, 4.5 hospitalist lines and a group of community family physicians that admit their own patients, will cover inpatient care outside the ICU. Each hospitalist line consists of approximately 18 patients. Patients are spread across several units in the hospital and are composed of medical patients outside of the ICU and telemetry and surgical patients attended to with support of appropriate specialist physicians. Daytime coverage is 8am to 5pm and on-call coverage is 5pm to 8am, not exceeding 1 in 4 nights. This position will have its clinical base at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia with breast clinics and surgeries at the IWK Women’s Health Center. The QEII Health Sciences Centre is the tertiary referral and quaternary care centre for approximately 2.5 million people in the Atlantic Provinces. Clinical work will be focused on breast surgery (70%) but will include a component of general adult surgery (30%). The successful candidate will be part of a breast surgery team consisting of 4 General Surgeons. The individual will be required to have experience in teaching and training other healthcare providers in all stages of training. The ability to work in a high volume clinic with strong communication, professionalism and time-management skills is required. This position will work in a multidisciplinary clinic with nurse navigators, genetics, plastic surgery and radiology. Experience in seed localizations, sentinel node, skin and nipple sparing mastectomies, benign and malignant breast conditions and oncoplastic experience is welcome. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in Nova Scotia and have training in general and breast surgery. Remuneration is based on a competitive alternative funding plan.
