About the Role Senior Counsel, in‑house HR, Litigation, and Compliance legal team, based out of Toronto and reporting to the VP & GC – HR, Litigation and Compliance. This strategic in‑house counsel position supports the organization’s legal needs with respect to HR and employment law while working with the broader legal and HR teams as well as business leaders. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving organization and will be adept at connecting business strategy to legal work. Responsibilities Manage and provide legal support for employment law and litigation matters, including collaborating and liaising with external counsel; reviewing and editing pleadings; attending mediations, examinations for discovery, and trials. Partner with HR and business stakeholders to advise on pre‑litigation and litigation related matters, assisting with litigation strategy. Provide legal support for workplace and employment relations matters, including regulatory compliance; performance management; discipline and termination; harassment, discrimination, and reductions in force. Manage employment‑related claims in the US & Canada, including active participation in mediations and litigation. Develop and/or review company employment policies, employment contracts, and communications. Deliver legal updates and training to Human Resources and business leaders to educate and manage risks across the organization. Provide insight for other legal groups such as M&A, Commercial, or Corporate Counsel teams as needed. Qualifications J.D. and excellent academic credentials, membership in at least one provincial or state bar. 6+ years of experience in US and/or Canadian HR and employment law from a law firm and/or in‑house.
