We are currently accepting applications for permanent part-time and/or full-time Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year. This role will support various programs including: Low Incidence Team: provides services for students who have complex communication needs, are blind or visually impaired, or d/deaf and hard of hearing. The team, including Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), supports assessment, skill development, and funding applications for alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) tools. They collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to implement AAC strategies, coordinate trials, and manage funding for speech-generating devices. Renfrew's CCN team is also a Level 3 Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) SGCD authorizer team. Community Services: collaborate with school staff and families in supporting student access to curriculum and engagement in school activities. They provide consultation, professional development, team collaboration, and direct intervention across various environments. Therapy intervention may be provided in one-to-one settings, in small groups, in classrooms, and universally in schools. These services are provided within school districts, independent schools, private ECS programs and other settings in southern Alberta. ECS (Early Childhood Services)/EEP (Elementary Education Program): working with the team and in collaboration with the teacher to develop strategies, coach and support team members and parents in daily classroom plans. Collaborates with teacher to develop, implement and evaluate Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals.

Qualifications: A Degree/Masters (or equivalent) in Speech-Language Pathology and proof of registration with ACSLPA are required. The ideal candidate must be an enthusiastic professional who is passionate about working with children and youth, teachers, and families. Understanding of and/or work experience with Indigenous Peoples and First Nations communities. Flexible and organized with good planning/time management and problem-solving skills. A reliable vehicle, auto insurance with a minimum $2,000,000.00 liability and driver’s license is required. Key Responsibilities: Provides services as a resource in the ongoing development of specialized curriculum (all braille codes, adaptive technology, social skills, keyboarding etc.) for students with visual impairments. Serves as a resource providing guidance and support to teachers in the design and implementation of instructional strategies, resources, practices and/or transition plans. Develops, monitors, and evaluates special projects and courses for students with visual impairments. Accesses and interprets ophthalmology and/or optometric results and conducts functional vision assessments to determine educational implications and needs. Screens new students who have visual impairments to determine educational and resource needs. Assesses students with visual impairments and interprets and uses unique assessment data for instructional planning with students who are visually impaired (academic, social, compensatory and life skills). Provides instruction and direct student support unique to students with visual impairments including: prebraille, braille reading and writing, optical and non-optical devices, adaptive equipment computer technology, social skills, listening and transition planning. Assists in the development of IPP’s and Student Learning plans. Provides school-based school district/agency-wide professional learning activities that support teaching and learning for students with visual impairments Consults with school staff regarding environmental adaptations to meet the needs of the student (seating location, adaptation for board work, etc.). Collaborates with school staff in integrating students with visual impairments. Assists in maintaining adaptive equipment including setting-up, troubleshooting, and repairing. Develops and maintains a high level of knowledge and awareness of current theory and practice related to meeting the learning, behavioral and social-emotional needs of students with visual impairments.Develops and maintains a high level of knowledge and awareness of current adaptive technology unique to the learning needs of students with visual impairments. Maintains contact with community services and agencies in order to develop a coordinated program of services to assist schools and families to access appropriate resources. Makes specific recommendations for Educational and Braille Assistance based on ongoing assessment of students with visual impairments as required. Provides support, consultation, and specialized training to Educational Assistants in braille and adaptive technology as required. Engages with parents/guardians as members of the student learning teams.

We are currently accepting applications for part-time and/or full-time Registered Psychologists and/or Registered Provisional Psychologists to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year. This role will support various programs at our agency locations, including:
Assessment and Therapy Services Department Community Services Nations ECS/Elementary Education Program
General Responsibilities includes (not limited to): Work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to plan and carry out programs. Enable and support learning for the youth and child and family members in the school, home and community. Develop treatment goals to assist in determining therapeutic progress. Review therapeutic interventions with parents and staff on a regular basis. Supporting parents through parenting concerns and challenges, offering resources and strategies from a trauma-informed and strength-based perspective, and focused on parenting skills, decreasing risk factors, increasing protective factors and functional capacity. Documentation/record keeping: record observations/complete progress notes, document direct/indirect time, write service summary reports or assessment reports, summarize recommendations and monthly kilometers Reports and other client documentation. Service planning and goal setting. Client advocacy and follow-up services with other organizations/health care providers. Consult with funders, partners in the community (as needed).
Assessment and Therapy Services: Conduct and score various assessments, provide strategies and suggestions to caregivers/parents, teachers, physicians and other individuals on how to meet the client’s needs, develop behaviour support plans and social stories, and support staff and/or caregivers/parents on the implementation. Develop treatment goals, (in collaboration with the Children and Youth’s Services team) to assist in determining therapeutic progress. Provide assessments, counselling including play therapy according to client needs. Possible travel in Calgary and surrounding areas and must be flexible with working hours of Monday to Thursday, 8:00am-6:00pm and Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm, as needed.
Community Services: Collaborate with school staff and families in supporting student access to curriculum and engagement in school activities. Provide consultation, professional development, team collaboration, and direct intervention across various environments. Therapy intervention may be provided in one-to-one settings, in small groups, in classrooms, and universally in schools. These services are provided within school districts, independent schools, private ECS programs and other settings in southern Alberta. This position has travel requirements – Calgary, West, East and South of Calgary.
Nations: Provide assessment services to children, youth, and young adults. School based counselling in harm reduction, addictions, trauma and/or grief. Group support activities. Participation with diagnosis and building capacity of those impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder; Autism Spectrum Disorder; Developmental Disability, etc. Provide assessments and counselling according to client needs. Working with the team and in collaboration with the teacher to develop strategies, coach and support team members and parents in daily classroom plans. Collaborates with teacher to develop, implement, and evaluate Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Psychology; current registration and good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Familiarity with the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists, Code of Professional Con duct, Principles for Psychological Testing, Family Enhancement Act, Mental Health Act, Persons with Disabilities Act. Experience with trauma-informed practice knowledge and experience. Experience in counselling with children and youth with special needs and their families. Experience with assessment, intervention and counseling in numerous areas (psychoeducational, social/emotional, behavioral, Autism, FASD, Learning Disabilities etc.). Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices. Experience working in community health or Primary Care Network considered an asset. A good listener, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have a vehicle, valid Alberta Driver’s License, and a clean driving record. A reliable vehicle, auto insurance with a minimum $2,000,000.00 liability and driver’s license is required. Must have professional liability insurance.
