    The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that currently owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. We take pride in providing a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment that caters to the complex needs of our senior residents and families. Locally, in Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta's largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence.

    The Role

    We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Care Aide to join our Adult Day Program team. This role involves providing vital health monitoring and personal care support to clients in a community-based setting. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to ensure the well-being and safety of each client while supporting their individual care plans.

    Key Responsibilities

    Health Monitoring & Personal Care:
    Monitor and record client vital signs at least once per month.
    Supervise blood glucose monitoring as directed by doctors or care coordinators. Assist with glucose monitoring when necessary by coordinating with RN/LPN.
    Provide personal care assistance and maintain supplies for client hygiene.
    Supervise and assist with medication administration as required.
    Client Care Coordination:
    Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure clients receive proper meals and special diets daily.
    Maintain supplies for snacks and meals, ensuring they are available for all clients.
    Regularly communicate client needs, health issues, and progress to Program Managers.
    Contribute to assessments and updates on clients' health records, including Six-month Reassessments and Medication Administration Records (MAR).
    Assist in the preparation of care plans for new admissions and contribute to initial client assessments.
    Emergency Response & Documentation:
    Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
    Document client health issues and progress, updating charts as needed.
    Provide input on client health concerns to family caregivers and case managers.
    Administrative & Client Support:
    Assist in organizing and updating client activity boards and health education materials.
    Take photographs for nametags, coat tags, and evacuation cards for new clients.
    Maintain a secure environment by locking files and unit areas when necessary.
    Team Collaboration & Support:
    Assist in leading recreation programs and other activities for clients.
    Collaborate with the Adult Day Program (ADP) team to meet client goals and care plan objectives.
    Assist with meal service, including setup, clearing, and snack/lunch distribution.
    Work with staff to ensure client progress is tracked and reported daily.
    Assist with the arrival and departure of clients and manage transportation needs.
    Professional Development:
    Attend monthly staff meetings, in-services, and workshops to maintain and enhance professional skills and knowledge.
    Additional Responsibilities

    Prepare, set-up, and lead assigned recreation programs.
    Report any concerns or issues related to client care to the Program Manager.
    Ensure client confidentiality and respect at all times.

    Who We're Looking For

    Graduate of a Government of Alberta approved Health Care Aide program
    Registered with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
    Experience in geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing is preferred

    Additional Information

    In accordance with Alberta's Protection for Persons in Care Act, a criminal record check is required for successful candidates.

    As a condition of employment with "BSF", all new Health Care Worker hires must provide written proof of immunizations for communicable diseases.
