    Description: Thompson Construction Group have an opening for a Civil Earthworks Construction Estimator based out of their head office located in Spruce Grove. Responsibilities: Review tender documents to determine the scope of work and assess any potential risks Develop estimates based on costs of materials, subcontractors, labour and equipment. Calculate crew productions, cycle times and durations-based factors such as load sizes, haul speeds, site conditions and applicable resources Obtain pricing quotations from subcontractors and suppliers Provide scheduling and histograms for tenders Perform quantity take-offs and quantity reconciliation Responsible for the entire completion of tender proposal packages for management review Accountable and responsible for the accuracy and compliance of assigned estimate Collaborate with site supervision to develop, recommend, and implement the project execution plan after being awarded the project Track tender addenda and submissions Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure completeness and compliant Attend client meetings associated with pre-tender, post tender and project startup Qualifications: Minimum 3 years of experience in estimating or project management, with a focus on earthworks and/or oil & gas projects Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering Superior computer skills and technical writing Experience with MS Software including Excel, Word, MS Project Software Ability to communicate effectively Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure Additional Information: The above statements describe the nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.     Thompson Construction Group is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Estimator to join our team in Spruce Grove. This role is responsible for preparing detailed, accurate, and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil, earthworks, and industrial projects. The Senior Estimator will contribute to bid strategy, analyze project risks, collaborate with operations, and support continuous improvement within the estimating team. Responsibilities Review tender documentation to determine scope, schedule requirements, and risk factors Develop accurate cost estimates including materials, equipment, labour, and subcontractor pricing Calculate production rates, crew compositions, cycle times, haul profiles, and operational durations based on site conditions and resource availability Perform detailed quantity take-offs and quantity reconciliation Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations; ensure pricing coverage and scope compliance Prepare construction schedules, resource histograms, and supporting documentation as part of bid submissions Lead the preparation and assembly of complete tender packages for senior management review and authorization Maintain accountability for the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of assigned estimates Track tender bulletins / addenda, clarifications, and submission requirements Attend client pre-bid, post-bid, and project handover / start-up meetings as required Coordinate with project and field teams post-award to support execution planning, risk mitigation, and turnover documentation Support continuous improvement of estimating systems, processes, and historical cost data Mentor and support junior estimating team members as required Qualifications Minimum 10+ years of relevant estimating and / or project management experience in earthworks, heavy civil, industrial, and / or oil & gas projects Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline Strong understanding of earthworks production, equipment capabilities, and construction methodologies Advanced computer proficiency including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Primavera, and industry estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, or similar) Strong technical writing, analytical, and financial skills Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and under deadlines Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment The above statements describe the general nature and responsibilities of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties or skills required.
