Zurich Canada is currently looking for a VP Reinsurance Director to develop and manage complex reinsurance strategies and to build high-level relationships with attributed reinsurers, brokers and portfolio managers at the SVP level.
This role follows a hybrid work model requiring four days per week of in-person presence, which may include time in the office or market-facing engagements.
Reporting to the EVP Chief Underwriting Officer and in close alignment with Group Reinsurance, you will develop and lead all aspects of the Reinsurance Strategy development and execution.
What you will do
Positioned as an objective business partner, develop and align treaty-level reinsurance strategies with key stakeholders to support our business strategy and ambitious growth plan in Canada, including portfolio and growth strategy optimization.
Work closely with Group Reinsurance, Canadian BU Analytics colleagues and utilize their input and findings in the decision-making process.
Support Treaty Premium Planning & Analysis.
Oversee treaty contract compliance.
Responsibilities also include senior management related responsibilities
Ensure that data is suitable for external and internal treaty pricing purposes.
Collect and validate exposure information from the business.
Design scope of cover; determine contract wording; release submission.
Negotiate and agree terms and conditions with approved reinsurers; finalize contract wordings.
Coordinate running internal pricing models, calculation of benchmark price, and/or validation of risk transfer.
Complete compliance forms, including obtaining sign-off from Group Reinsurance Legal, as required.
Ensure reinsurance governance in accordance with the Zurich Risk Policy is adhered to and documented as required.
Business travel, as required.
Extended hours during peak periods, as required.
What you bring to the table
Ability to build strong business partner relationships.
Experience working across business units/functions and collaboration in a team environment.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience of Reinsurance underwriting or brokerage.
Profound understanding of and experience with OSFI’s supervisory expectations of sound reinsurance practices and procedures.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities, capable of engaging with high management levels.
Proficiency and motivation in working with technical details.
Strategic thinking capabilities.
Proficiency in influencing and negotiation.
Required
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance or economics.
Preferred
Strong analytics skillset.
Advanced knowledge of reinsurance contracts.
Negotiation and business partnering experience.
MBA or post graduate studies.
Bilingual in English and French would be considered a strong asset.
Compensation
At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. The base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. This range reflects the expected pay for the role across Canada and may vary depending on factors like office location, specific responsibilities, and individual qualifications. As required by local law, Zurich provides a reasonable compensation range, but starting salaries may exceed this range based on a candidate’s skills and experience.
