The Engineering Projects Department is an integral part of YVR, we support the construction and development projects on Sea Island. The Engineering Department works with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the goals of YVR Executive Team and leadership.  Position overviewAre you passionate about project engineering? Are you ready to help shape the future of sustainable infrastructure in the aviation industry?We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Junior/ Intermediate Project Engineer in the Engineering Projects Department. Reporting to the Manager, Airport Terminal Projects, the successful candidate will be a key member of the Mechanical Plant Upgrades Program – YVR’s most significant investment in our roadmap to net zero.  As part of the team, you will develop and provide interface management across the different scope packages within the Program, as well as assist with the development of program documents, review technical submissions, engage with and present to stakeholders, and manage its design and construction.Key responsibilities include:Managing assigned capital and investment projects, including developing project requirements, project scope, budget and schedulePreparing and delivering on project implementation plans in collaboration with YVR stakeholders and Airport Operations and Maintenance, while acting as a leader in the areas of construction safety and environmental stewardshipPreparation and evaluation of Request for Proposal and Tender documents, including scope of work definition, technical requirements and schedule constraintsManaging design teams to develop contract documents and meet desired project outcomes while adhering to scope, schedule and budgetMaintaining and managing construction contracts, schedules, and project budgets including forecasting costs and risk managementLiaising with internal Airport Authority departments and external stakeholders throughout the projects, and facilitating discussions, reviews, inspections, and site visits. Key qualifications include:Completion of a university degree in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering combined with a minimum of two years’ (for Junior Project Engineer) or five years’ (for Intermediate Project Engineer) experience in the design, construction or consulting industryRegistered or eligible to register as an Engineer-in-Training with the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC); completion of the Law and Ethics seminar is requiredKnowledge of construction industry practices and standards; knowledge of airport operations is an assetStrong project management, organization and knowledge of contract law and contract administration processesProficiency using Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook and ProjectEffective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

Reporting to the Manager, Airport Terminal Projects, the Field Engineer will provide support to Project Engineers by executing project management responsibilities. This role involves performing project management tasks, identifying solutions, and contributing to the successful completion of YVR’s projects. The Field Engineer is responsible for coordinating and overseeing multiple facets of the project to ensure adherence to timelines, budget constraints, and quality standards.Key responsibilities include:  Managing project documentation using tools like Procore, including:Logging project requirements and drawingsIssuing and tracking site instructions, RFIs, and change ordersReviewing submittals and progress drawsIdentifying key lockouts from contractor schedules and reporting to OperationsPreparing and submitting lockout requests and Baggage Hall Requests for Change documentationCoordinating lockouts by working with contractors, Operations, Maintenance, and other YVR stakeholdersConducting regular site reviews to monitor progress and ensure compliance with contract documentsAttending construction sites to investigate RFIs and deficiency listsParticipating in project design meetings and providing input based on technical standardsKey qualifications include:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science or related field.Registered with Engineers and Geoscientist of BC as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or be eligible to register and registered prior to start dateAbility to read construction drawings and visualize in three dimensions.Construction engineering experience or previous work in a construction environment is an assetExperience with project scheduling and document management software (Procore or other) will be an assetExcellent communication and problem-solving abilities to navigate challenges and achieve results.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts over the phone and in person. Strong communication (written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills.This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants.
