    Community Hospital Inpatient Physician (Hospitalist) 200-1092 Reference Number: 200-1092 The West Coast General Hospital (WCGH) is seeking physicians to join our ‘Community Hospital Inpatient Physician’ (CHIP) team. Full time or part time positions are available. The West Coast General Hospital fosters a collaborative team-based environment with a focus on maximizing patient safety, championing culturally safe patient care, and practicing trauma-informed care. In this role, CHIP team members will act as MRP care for unattached & unassigned inpatients to the Family Practice service at WCGH. Responsibilities include: Rounding on inpatients to the service Arranging service transfers and inter-facility repatriations Discharge planning Responding to urgent calls for admitted patients under this service To ensure adequate flow of admissions and discharges, attendance and participation at the daily structured team report is required, as well as in-person (virtual or telephone) patient handover at discharge to patients' primary community practitioners. Physicians in this role also provide consult services to on-site ambulatory clinics, including Medical Day care, and provide virtual outreach consult service to rural health sites and rural and remote Indigenous communities. Participating physicians collectively provide on-site MRP services every day between the hours of 0700-2200, 52 weeks of the year, including statutory holidays. The scheduled afternoon/evening physician will provide coverage with a focus on new unassigned and unattached patient admissions through the ED, completion of patient rounding, and end-of-day patient stabilization, as well as responding to urgent, non-code calls for patients admitted to the site. CHIP team members will evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages, with a wide variety of illnesses, diseases, injuries, and functional disorders, providing both direct and indirect patient care. Dependent on successful completion of relevant training and/or privileging criteria, there may also be opportunities to provide: First call for After-hours OR Assist Providing MAID physician services NTP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) services Transportation costs and temporary short-term housing for physicians and their families is available. Reporting to the VP / Chief Medical Health Officer, Population and Public Health, the Executive Director (ED), Addiction Medicine and Substance Use Services, is responsible and accountable for providing leadership for the planning, coordination, integration, operation, and evaluation of Island Health Addiction Medicine, and Substance Use programs, policies and services. The ED provides overall leadership through a central organizational structure accountable to the Vice President, Population and Public Health. The Executive Director develops strong relationships with all partners and stakeholders and works closely with them to guide services and strategies, achieve an effective alignment of shared activities, jointly measure outcomes, build broad public support, advance policy and mobilize future funding to sustain programs. The ED develops and maintains effective relationships with Island Health programs and leaders including Acute and Community services, Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU), Home Health, and Public Health to foster effective communication and partnerships to implement, manage and evaluate services. The ED develops and promotes linkages for project and clinical initiatives at the site and system level across Island Health and liaises with executive leadership from external service delivery agencies, other Regional Health Authorities, the First Nations Health Authority, the Ministry of Mental Health & Addictions, Ministry of Health, and senior staff in the Federal government to discuss new initiatives, trends and policy directions. The Combined Laboratory X-Ray Technologist (CLXT) training is a paid training program for existing employees in Island Health wishing to advance their education and begin an exciting new career within Laboratory Services. Please Note: the wages reflected on this Expression of Interest are representative of post-graduate rates for the CLXT position and would commence upon completion of the program. Here's what you need to know: Two (2) Successful participants will be given the opportunity to temporarily relocate to Edmonton, Alberta to attend the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in September 2025. Participants will be placed on a paid weekly stipend and unpaid educational leave for the duration of the CLXT training program. Participants must successfully complete the NAIT program within the allotted 2 year period. This program is full time employer paid.
