  • Post-Doctoral Fellow in Cardioimmunology The mission of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology is to provide an enriched environment for research, education and training in the field of infection and immunity that links molecular mechanisms to disease, treatment and prevention. We invite applications for a postdoctoral fellow to perform high-level complex research activities in cardioimmunology. Our main research topics include immune responses in cardio-oncology, viral and autoimmune myocarditis. We use genetically modified mouse models to uncover the role of immune cells in these settings. Responsibilities Design, conduct, and analyze experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Manage animal experiments, including ordering, maintenance, record-keeping, and ethical compliance. Guide technical staff, students, and postdoctoral fellows in experimental design, training, execution, and analysis. Prepare manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications. Assist with laboratory consumables, biohazard waste, and instrument maintenance. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. level degree in Immunology or Cardiovascular Sciences awarded within the last 2 years. 5 years experience in small animal models and flow cytometry.     Job Description Position : This position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA). The position has a term length of 1 year plus 1 day and offers a comprehensive benefits package. The role will primarily be in Maskwacîs with some travel to neighboring towns and the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Organization : The Women and Children\u2019s Health Research Institute (WCHRI) was founded in 2006 as a partnership between the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, with core funding from foundations that support research excellence, training and development in women\u2019s and children\u2019s health. Position overview : This position will be responsible for providing project assistance and coordination for the “Wichitasowin” research project, a 2-year initiative aimed at helping Indigenous adolescents and young adults aged 16-25 in the community of Maskwacîs who are living with a chronic health condition transition from pediatric to adult health care. The Community Research Coordinator will provide community engagement and administration support to the study, and will collaborate with an Indigenous patient navigator, other members of the research team, and other WCHRI staff. Responsibilities : Plan and assist with data collection; gather feedback from the community; interview participants, transcribe interviews; and analyze data. Provide feedback on research documents such as ethics applications, interview guides, and survey development. Plan bi-monthly community research gatherings with advisory committee and/or other community members; assist with community workshops that contribute to the betterment of women and children’s health. Develop and manage social media platforms, in coordination with the WCHRI communications team, as necessary. Assist with relationship building in Maskwacîs and outside partners; support Elders and community member engagement. Provide administrative support (take meeting minutes, support writing reports, develop and monitor research budgets, etc.). Qualifications : Minimum of high school diploma; postsecondary education in a science or health-related discipline preferred. Combination of education and experience considered. Minimum of 2 years direct and focused experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and/or communities is required. Must have dependable WIFI and transportation. Must live in or near Maskwacîs. Computer proficiency using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision. Precise documentation skills, detail oriented. Strategic objectives Coordinates annual tracking of HRHSE strategic objectives and related project documents. Assists with strategic planning activities for the leadership team. Supports HRHSE input into USOF and university-wide strategic objectives, including submission, tracking, and reporting as required. Event management Coordinates HRHSE departmental events such as town halls, including booking rooms, arranging catering and ensuring distribution of meeting materials. Contributes to and supports HRHSE employee experience events and activities in collaboration with relevant HRHSE employee committees. Qualifications High School Diploma with significant directly related professional experience, or Diploma or Degree in Human Resources, business administration, or a related discipline combined with a minimum of 5 years directly related experience Experience working in a large, complex and unionized environment, preferably in a post-secondary institution Demonstrated political acuity, professionalism, and discretion, and can be trusted with sensitive, highly confidential information Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking ability Well developed leadership and teamwork skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to track and monitor budget and financial activities Strong MSOffice and Google Suite technical skills Familiarity with the University of Alberta, its governing system, and academic programs and collective agreements would be beneficial.
