Putting people first, every day
BDO is a firm built on a foundation of positive relationships with our people and our clients. Each day, our professionals provide exceptional service, helping clients with advice and insight they can trust. In turn, we offer an award‑winning environment that fosters a people‑first culture with a high priority on your personal and professional growth.
Your Opportunity
BDO Digital is looking for a Senior NetSuite Developer to join our growing NetSuite ERP Practice, with the ability to work from anywhere in Canada. This net new role is a foundational one within our Canada practice. As BDO’s first dedicated NetSuite developer, you will not only deliver exceptional technical solutions for our clients, but also define the technical standards, development frameworks, and best practices that will shape how our entire NetSuite practice operates — now and as the team scales.
Core Responsibilities
Act as a trusted technical advisor to external customers and BDO project teams in support of NetSuite ERP implementations, enhancements, and optimizations
Serve as the lead NetSuite developer on complex projects, providing technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to other developers and consultants
Translate business and functional requirements into high‑quality, scalable NetSuite solutions
Design, develop, test, and deploy custom NetSuite solutions using SuiteScript (2.x), workflows, saved searches, SuiteFlow, and SuiteBuilder; understand and write or update scripts in legacy SuiteScript versions (1.x) when required to support existing client environments where migration to 2.x is not yet feasible
Develop and maintain integrations between NetSuite and third‑party applications using REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, and file‑based integrations
Support data migration, system configuration, testing, and deployment activities across full‑cycle NetSuite implementations
Collaborate closely with functional consultants, solution architects, and project managers to ensure technical solutions align with business objectives
Perform code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance optimization to ensure solution quality and system stability
Contribute to the development and maintenance of BDO NetSuite development standards, best practices, and reusable assets
Provide technical training, documentation, and knowledge transfer to internal teams and client stakeholders
Establishing Best Practices & Structure
As BDO Canada’s first NetSuite developer, a key part of your mandate is to build the foundation. You will be expected to define, champion, and evolve the standards and frameworks that govern how we develop, integrate, test, and deliver NetSuite solutions. This includes:
Define and champion BDO’s internal NetSuite development standards — including coding conventions, naming conventions, error‑handling protocols, and documentation requirements — to establish a consistent and maintainable codebase across all projects
Architect and maintain a reusable component library and template repository (e.g., via SuiteCloud Development Framework and Git), enabling faster, more consistent delivery across client engagements
Establish and enforce a structured code review and quality assurance process, including automated or manual testing checkpoints prior to deployment, to ensure every solution meets a defined quality bar before go‑live
Define and lead a script performance optimization framework — including guidelines for profiling, benchmarking, and refactoring SuiteScript solutions — and ensure that all optimization efforts are measured against defined KPIs (e.g., script execution time, API call reduction, page load latency) to deliver demonstrable, quantifiable improvements in system performance
Design and implement a scalable integration framework — including standard patterns for REST/SOAP API connectivity, error handling, logging, and retry logic — to serve as the foundation for all future third‑party integrations
Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture decision records, integration maps, deployment runbooks, and onboarding guides, to support knowledge continuity and team growth
Build and lead an internal knowledge‑sharing program (e.g., regular code reviews, lunch‑and‑learns, or a shared wiki) to ensure best practices are adopted consistently across the growing NetSuite practice
Evaluate and recommend new NetSuite platform capabilities, third‑party tools, and methodologies on a regular basis to keep BDO’s practice current and competitive
Serve as the point of escalation and technical decision‑maker when resolving complex development challenges or conflicting technical priorities across concurrent engagements
How Do We Define Success for Your Role?
You demonstrate BDO’s core values through all aspects of your work: Integrity, Respect, and Collaboration
You understand your client’s industry, challenges, and opportunities; clients describe you as positive, professional, and delivering high‑quality work
You identify, recommend, and are focused on effective service delivery to your clients
You share in an inclusive and engaging work environment that develops, retains, and attracts talent
You actively participate in the adoption of digital tools and strategies to drive an innovative workplace
You grow your expertise through learning and professional development
You take ownership of building and sustaining the technical foundation that will support BDO’s NetSuite practice for years to come
BDO’s internal teams and clients recognize the consistency, reliability, and quality of solutions delivered under the standards you establish
Your Experience and Education
Minimum 5+ years of NetSuite development experience, including hands‑on expertise with SuiteScript (2.x) and a working understanding of legacy SuiteScript versions (1.x) to support and maintain older client environments as needed
Experience delivering full‑cycle NetSuite implementations, including design, development, testing, deployment, and post‑go‑live support
Strong experience with SuiteScript (Client, User Event, Suitelet, Map/Reduce), NetSuite workflows (SuiteFlow), saved searches, reports, and dashboards, and NetSuite customization and configuration best practices
Proven experience designing and supporting integrations using REST/SOAP APIs and middleware platforms
Solid understanding of ERP business processes, including finance, order‑to‑cash, procure‑to‑pay, and record‑to‑report
Experience working with SuiteCloud Development Framework (SDF) and source control (e.g., Git) is an asset
NetSuite certifications (e.g., SuiteFoundation, SuiteCloud Developer) will be considered in the selection process
Demonstrated ability to define, document, and enforce development standards and best practices within a team or practice setting
Experience building or contributing to reusable solution frameworks, template libraries, or shared tooling for development teams
Proven experience in identifying, profiling, and optimizing SuiteScript performance, with the ability to define and track measurable metrics (e.g., execution time reduction, decreased API calls, improved page load times) to demonstrate tangible system performance improvements
Self‑motivated, articulate, and able to lead technical discussions, mentor peers, and influence technical direction
Strong problem‑solving, debugging, and documentation skills
The expected range of compensation for this role is $84,000 to $128,000.
