The position leads crews to ensure that fixtures on the railroad work properly. The incumbent participates in inspecting, repairing, and replacing rails, ties, switches, and ballast. Main Responsibilities Inspect and maintain track structure and right-of-way to CN's specifications. Supervise and develop track forces to ensure quality maintenance and safe work performance. Inspect track work on completion and approve track for service. Maintain train operating restrictions in alignment with track standards. Implement safety directives. Assist in the development of safety programs and goals. Remove and replace defective ties, rails spikes, and anchors. Correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge.     Role:

    Intermodal Heavy Duty Mechanics perform major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of vehicles, vehicle attachments and material handling equipment. This position requires you to work days and afternoon shift with partial weekends, as required.

    Salary: Intermodal Heavy Duty Mechanics earn a of: Days $46.23/Hour

    Afternoons $47.73/Hour

    Critical performance areas include the following:

    Inspect, service and maintain Intermodal cranes, terminal tractors, vehicles and equipment, in accordance with federal and company regulations, including changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts.

    Diagnose diesel / gas engine, electrical, hydraulic, driveline malfunctions and making required repairs.

    Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operate said tools and machinery in a safe and effective manner.

    Use measuring devices and understanding visual displays.

    Repair various yard equipment machinery.

    Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures.

    Working Conditions:

    Ability to work irregular shifts, including evenings, midnights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.

    Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, performing overhead work, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds (22 kg).

    Employment Requirements:

    Successful candidates will receive paid on-the-job training on new products and updates as required by the company, both theoretical and practical instructions.

    Depending on your level of experience, candidates must have completed 2nd year and registered with trade branch for 3rd year and will attend a series of courses at your work location in Canada or away from your work area for training purposes. Training will include intermodal equipment components, control systems, air brakes, start up, basic diesel electric systems and CN maintenance regulations. Truck motors, data recorders, as well as fuel, oil, water and air systems will also be covered. Successful completion of this program is essential for performance of future duties.

    Role:

    Job Summary

    The Heavy-Duty Mechanic (HDM) is responsible for performing inspections, major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of locomotives.

    Working Conditions

    Ability to work irregular shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.

    Shop environment.
    Occasional travel.

    Major Responsibilities

    Heavy Duty Mechanics (HDM) perform major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of locomotives. To learn more about the job click here to view the video.

    Critical performance areas include the following but may vary depending on the location and circumstances:

    Inspect, service and maintain locomotives, in accordance with federal and company regulations, including changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts.

    Diagnose diesel engine malfunctions and making required repairs.

    Assemble and start engines.

    Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operate said tools and machinery in a safe and effective manner.

    Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures.

    Operate locomotive on shop tracks.

    Test locomotives on shop track after repair.

    Requirements

    High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)

    Diesel mechanic experience and/or Diesel mechanic diploma.
    A valid driver's license.
    Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays.
    Basic technical knowledge of diesel mechanics.
    Good hand-eye coordination.
    Dedicated to getting the job done while meeting established standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
    Frequent lifting / carrying up to 50 lbs. (22 kg).

    Valid commercial driver's license for the class and type of equipment operated

    Ability to certify company equipment in accordance with provincial standards

    Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems

    This position is a unionized position, as such pay and benefits are governed by the applicable Collective Agreement.

    Paid Training:

    Successful candidates will receive on-the-job training, both theoretical and practical instructions. Depending on your level of experience, candidates may receive a 4-year on-the-job apprenticeship program and will attend a series of courses at your work location in Canada.

    Training will include locomotive components, locomotive control systems, locomotive air brakes, locomotive start up, basic diesel electric systems and CN maintenance regulations. Truck and traction motors, event recorders, as well as fuel, oil, water and air systems plus power assembly will also be covered. Successful completion of this program is essential for performance of future duties.
